How OnePlus is connected to Oppo

OnePlus and Oppo have been linked from the start. Pete Lau was a vice-president at Oppo before he co-founded OnePlus, and Chinese public records showed Oppo Electronics as OnePlus's only institutional investor. In its early years OnePlus said it was not an Oppo subsidiary, while confirming that it used Oppo's manufacturing lines and shared part of its supply chain.

The two have since moved closer. In January 2021 they combined their hardware research teams, and in July 2021 OnePlus merged the codebase of OxygenOS with Oppo's ColorOS. OnePlus is now described as a subsidiary of Oppo. Its phones run OxygenOS outside China and ColorOS in China.

Is OnePlus made in India?

Being a Chinese brand and being made in China are different things. OnePlus smartphones sold in India have been manufactured in India for some years. In 2025 the company moved tablet assembly to India as well, through a partnership with the Indian electronics manufacturer Bhagwati Products Limited. The OnePlus Pad 3 and Pad Lite were the first tablets to be made at Bhagwati's plant in Greater Noida.

So a OnePlus phone bought in India may well have been made in India. The brand, the company and its owner remain Chinese.

What OnePlus sells

OnePlus started with a single phone and built its name on high-end hardware at lower prices than its rivals. It now sells flagship and mid-range smartphones, wireless earphones, tablets, smartwatches, televisions and accessories such as power banks and cases.
