India's drug makers are best known for generic medicines sold at home and exported around the world. This ranking orders the listed ones by stock market value, using the six-month average that the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) publishes for every listed company.

The ten companies below were worth ₹13.83 lakh crore between them on average from January to June 2026, 2.9% more than the same ten in the previous six months.

How this ranking works

  • Measure. Average full market capitalisation for the six months ended 30 June 2026, as published by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). For a company that trades on more than one exchange, AMFI averages the figures across exchanges.
  • Who can appear. Listed companies whose main business is making medicines or their active ingredients. Hospital chains, diagnostic laboratories and consumer goods companies are not included.
  • Comparison. Rises and falls are measured against AMFI's previous list, for the six months ended 31 December 2025.
  • What we changed. Nothing. The values are AMFI's. We filtered its all-company list to this group, converted crore to lakh crore and rounded.
  • What it does not tell you. Sales, profit, or whether a share is worth buying. Market value records what investors paid in that period. It is not a forecast.

What the list tells you

One giant and a crowded middle

Sun Pharma is worth 2.5 times as much as Divi's in second place. Below that, positions four to eight are tightly packed: Cipla, Dr. Reddy's, Lupin, Zydus Lifesciences and Mankind Pharma all fall between ₹0.9 lakh crore and ₹1.1 lakh crore.

Only four are large cap now

Sun Pharma, Divi's, Torrent Pharma and Cipla are among the 100 most valuable listed companies in India. Dr. Reddy's was 100th in the previous list and is 104th in this one, so it now counts as mid cap, along with the five companies below it.

Three cities

Mumbai has four of the ten: Sun Pharma, Cipla, Lupin and Alkem. Hyderabad has three: Divi's, Dr. Reddy's and Aurobindo. Ahmedabad has Torrent Pharma and Zydus Lifesciences. Mankind Pharma, in Delhi, is the exception.

Founders still matter

Most of these companies are still closely tied to the families that started them. The Shanghvi family owns a majority of Sun Pharma, and Torrent Pharma belongs to the Torrent Group of the Mehta family.

Who just missed the list

Four more drug makers are within reach of the top ten. Laurus Labs and Biocon gained the most: Laurus Labs went from ₹49,365 crore to ₹61,937 crore, and Biocon from ₹50,160 crore to ₹61,356 crore.

Limits of this ranking

This is a six-month average that ended on 30 June 2026. It will not match the market capitalisation shown on a stock exchange or trading app today, and a company's position on any single day can differ from its position here.

Market value is one way to measure size. Ranked by revenue, profit, assets or number of employees, the list would look different. Nothing here is investment advice. AMFI publishes its next list, for July to December 2026, in early January 2027, and this page will be updated when it does.
